In most tales, the Lady in White appears where sorrow once took root: at the edge of forgotten fields, in abandoned homes and empty doorways.

Some believe she searches for the one who wronged her. Others might say she searches for herself.

But when the wind moves through the trees, it sounds less like grief… and more like regret.

I have always loved the idea behind “The Lady in White.” The concept as a whole, I mean. The ghostly figure of a woman who appears beside dark highways and behind the windows of haunted houses. She doesn’t always know she’s dead, doesn’t always understand why she’s tied to a rundown farmhouse because the memories are fuzzy. The symbolic purity of her dress to hide the horror of her end gives me goosebumps every time…

The first of three poems dedicated to this particular session.

I wrote it because I was feeling a sharp resentment toward the fact that so many people describe me like I have sunshine coming out my behind. And it’s nice to be considered that way, but I fully contribute to the cliche of “you don’t know how much pain I had to go through to be this kind.”

Being online like I am, I have to understand that I am often seen as a 2D character. I’m that funny weird woman with the bones. If I’m not mindful, it can feel dehumanizing though. This poem touches on that a bit.
